ADENOMYOSIS

HEALING ADENOMYOSIS

Once a month, during menstruation, the cells that line the uterus are shed away and are expelled by the body through menstruation. Sometimes these cells grow abnormally into the muscle of the uterus causing a condition called Adenomyosis. Women with adenomyosis tend to suffer from very painful and often heavy periods. The symptoms are similar to fibroids although generally the pain is more pronounced in women with Adenomyosis.  In some cases women have fibroids and Adenomyosis at the same time. Adenomyosis is usually diagnosed using an MRI (Medical Resonance Imaging).

Uterine Artery Embolisation is also effective in removing the symptoms of adenomyosis. The procedure is similar to the one performed for fibroids, however smaller sized particles are used. This means they are able to infiltrate into the abnormal tissue deeper. Where hysterectomy used to be the only lasting solution, this is no longer the case and UAE can effectively remove the problem without damaging the uterus.

step 1

A thin tube (catheter) is placed in the radial artery of the wrist which is advanced into the blood vessels that supply the uterus.

step 2

Tiny particles are injected through the catheter into the small arteries that supply the adenomyosis within the uterus. The particles starve the adenomyosis of its nutrient and oxygen supply.

step 3

The adenomyosis disappears as the muscle of the uterus heals. The effect on bleeding is instantaneous and period pains improve with the very next cycle.
